Heartwarming: 3-year-old gives birthday cupcake to her hero – the garbage man

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — A 3-year-old girl from Illinois is warming hearts with her act of kindness for her hero – the garbage man.

According to the Huffington Post, Brooklyn Andracke looks forward to Thursdays because that's when Delvar Dopson comes by in his garbage truck.

"Every Thursday, my heart is full when I see the joy that our amazing garbage man brings Brooklyn when he honks and waves at her with a BIG smile," Brooklyn's mother, Traci Andracke, wrote in a post that was shared on the Bloomington City Hall Facebook page.

Brooklyn finally got to meet Dopson earlier this month when she celebrated her third birthday. She saved a cupcake for Dopson and waited for him to drive by.

"We were waving like usual, and I motioned for him to come over by us," Traci Andracke wrote. "He pulled over, got out and gave us his BIG smile. Brooklyn was instantly speechless as she handed him the cupcake. I explained to him that he makes our day every Thursday, and we really appreciate the honking and waving, and how special of a day it is for us."

It turns out that the feeling was mutual.

"He explained that he looks forward to seeing us every Thursday, as well," Traci Andracke wrote. "He said that he has a meeting every Thursday morning and always tries to get out of there in a hurry so that he can make sure to see us every week."

After the meeting, Brooklyn told her mom, "I'm so happy."

But their story doesn't end there. The next week, Brooklyn gave Dopson a sign that said, "Thank you, Delvar." Dopson also had a special gift for Brooklyn.

"He walked her around to the other side of the truck and pulled out the most amazing, awesome and generous birthday gifts for her," Traci Andracke wrote in another Facebook post. "He said he did a little research and knew she liked the movie 'Frozen.' His wife made this incredible basket full of everything 'Frozen,' and another full set of 'Frozen' fun stuff to color, paint and draw with – a little girl's dream!!!! (and yes, at this point I was crying)."
