A new 5G single pole cellular tower has some parents in Ponte Vedra Beach worried about their children’s health.

The tower went up earlier this week on PGA Tour property, right next to the Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus.

Parents want it moved and started a petition, which has gathered more than 130 signatures.

The new tower replaces an obsolete tripod tower that had existed for many years just 600 feet from the new tower.

The new tower, which is not yet active for 5G, also includes the county emergency communication system.

A PGA Tour spokesperson said the tower was properly permitted and approved by the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners in 2017.

A representative of the PGA tour had multiple conversations with the school’s leadership prior to the permitting approval meetings, according to a spokesperson.

However, parents said they were never notified.

A PGA Tour spokesperson said they continue to have conversations directly with the school’s administration and hope to put the concerns to rest.
