1 dead, 5 injured in fiery deadly crash on Jacksonville’s Northside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a fiery deadly crash on 3100 N. Edgewood Avenue early Sunday.

Officers said that the driver of a BMW lost control of the car, crossed the median, crashed into a Suburban, and caught fire.

Responding officers were able to save the driver, and two of the three female passengers in the burning car.

The third passenger was unable to escape and died in the fire.

The driver and the other two passengers were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, JSO said.

The driver of the Suburban was also transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

An officer suffered minor burns to his arms and head and was treated at the scene by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, according to police.

Speed may have been a contributing factor to the crash, JSO said.

At this time, it is unknown if alcohol was a factor, and if the driver of the BMW will face any charges.

JSO reminds the public to slow down, pay attention, and get a designated driver: don’t drink and drive.
