Deadly crash on the Mathews Bridge in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: The ramp to MLK Parkway is now open and there are no major delays.

Troopers say a driver of a Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on the Mathews Bridge and tried to go around a curve to Martin Luther King Boulevard and hit a tree.

The driver died at the scene. There were no other cars or people involved in the crash.

The name of the person killed has not been released at this time because next of kin has not been notified, FHP stated in a traffic report.

The ramp to Martin Luther King Parkway is blocked because of a deadly crash along Arlington Expressway on the Mathews Bridge at Talleyrand Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say they responded to the crash at 4:01 a.m. Friday.

There is one westbound lane blocked on the Mathews Bridge at this time. Drivers can use the Hart Bridge for an alternate route.
