Investigation underway after Jacksonville train derailment; cleanup could take days, crews say

No one was injured in a train derailment on Jacksonville's northside late Sunday night.

Multiple rail cars went off the tracks at Busch Drive and Main Street around 10 p.m.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue is assisting CSX on the cleanup and investigation.

CSX said they're still working to learn what caused the derailment.

Although two cars were carrying ethanol, officials said there are no indications of any leaks.

Crews tell Action News Jax reporter Elizabeth Pace they will continue to bring the eight derailed cars back on the track and restore the area. They said it could take a couple of days.

"At approximately 10 p.m. Sunday, several rail cars on a CSX train derailed near U.S. 17/Main Street, north of Busch Drive in Jacksonville. Preliminary reports indicate eight rail cars are involved in the incident. Two of those rail cars are carrying ethanol and derailed into Cedar Creek. There are no injuries reported and no indications of any leaks at this time. We are mobilizing experts and specialized contractors and developing a plan to restore the area. Safety is our highest priority through this process. Our experts and contractors will work around the clock until this work is complete, which may take several days."
