Organs of Jacksonville girl beaten to death will save five lives

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The family of the Jacksonville 5-year-old girl police said was beaten to death is turning a tragedy into hope for other families.

Zykerria Robinsosn's organs are being donated and will help save at least five lives. The community held a vigil on Friday night to remember the little girl.

A funeral was held over the weekend.

Investigators said the child was beaten to death inside of her home at the Oak Tree Apartments.

Zykerria's grandfather said the community cannot lose anyone children this way.

"If one person could’ve stepped up and went in that apartment and checked on our grandkids, she’d probably still be alive today," her grandfather said.

Zykerria's mother and her boyfriend were arrested on child abuse and neglect charges.
