TAMPA, Fla. — A Florida toddler is dead after she was accidentally left in a hot Jeep outside a Tampa home, authorities said.
According to WFLA, the 1 1/2-year-old girl's parents discovered the unresponsive child in their Jeep about 6:30 p.m. Monday and called police. Doctors at an area hospital later pronounced the girl dead, WFTS reported.
Investigators believe the girl's father forgot that she was in the vehicle Monday morning after he drove other family members to school and work, Tampa police spokesman Steve Hegarty told WFTS. He drove a different car to his own job and returned home that evening to find the girl inside the Jeep, authorities said.
Police are still investigating the incident but so far do not suspect foul play, WFLA and WFTS reported.
