ATLANTA — A man allegedly playing with a gun accidentally shot and killed his girlfriend Saturday evening in Atlanta, Georgia.
Atlanta Police Department officers were called to the Northside Plaza apartment complex near 400 Markham Street for a report of a person who was shot, according to WSB-TV. When officers arrived, they found a woman who was reportedly shot in the chest.
During the start of the investigation, officers got access to some Ring camera footage that allegedly showed the victim with her boyfriend in the “breezeway of the apartment complex,” when a gun went off. According to WSB, the boyfriend was allegedly playing with the gun when it went off and hit the woman.
The woman was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Atlanta Police Department Capt. Tom Atzert told WSB that “you can tell it was definitely an accident.”
Investigators reportedly said that the couple does not live at the apartment complex and were there to visit a friend when the shooting happened, according to WSB.
The boyfriend and victim have not yet been identified. According to WSB, the boyfriend is in custody and charges are pending.
