LARGO, Fla. — A Florida man is accused of firing a handgun at another driver during a road rage incident on Wednesday, authorities said.
Robert Kyle Lewis, 34, of Largo, was arrested and charged with one count of shooting a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle and one count of criminal mischief, according to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.
Lewis was released after posting $12,000 bail, records show.
According to the Pinellas Park Police Department, Lewis and Peter Sala Jr., 29, got into an argument while driving southbound on U.S. 19 shortly after 8 a.m., the Tampa Bay Times reported. The argument escalated after Sala Jr. allegedly threw a banana at the pickup truck being driven by Lewis, the newspaper reported.
According to police, Lewis then fired a single round at Sala Jr., WTVT reported.
The bullet shattered Sala Jr.’s front passenger window, entered the vehicle and lodged into the dashboard on the front passenger side of the vehicle, the television station reported.
Sala Jr. suffered a small, non-life-threatening laceration to his leg from a piece of glass fragment that struck him, the Times reported.
