40% chance that Central Atlantic system could develop into subtropical cyclone

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — There’s a 40% chance that a system in the Central Atlantic could develop into a subtropical cyclone.

The National Hurricane Center said right now, it is a large area of low pressure that is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

Action News Jax First Alert Meteorologist Garrett Bedenbaugh said the system may briefly acquire some subtropical characteristics.

NHC said by the end of the week, the system is forecast to move into cooler waters, ending its chance of developing further.

Bedenbaugh said the system will not impact Florida or the U.S. East Coast.
