JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens announced that Kimacho, 20, a beloved okapi has passed away from acute heart disease.
Heart disease is common in the okapi species.
Okapi are an endangered species and threatened due to deforestation, poaching, and mining in the wild.
Kimacho has been a resident at the Zoo for the last 11 years.
He was loved amongst staff and visitors.
