JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and the State Fire Marshal are investigating a residential fire on West 15th Street that injured one and displaced eight.

According to firefighters at the scene, crews were called out at around 4:45 a.m. after a child woke up smelling smoke and notified the parents.
Upon arrival, crews saw that the fire spread into the apartment attic and main house attic, and there was damage to the front of the front and back of the home.

One of the parents was injured in the fire and was transported to the hospital by rescue personnel. The Red Cross was called to assist the remaining family.
JFRD said the fire appears suspicious, so the State Fire Marshal was called to determine the cause of the fire.
