JSO: Man found dead on Moncrief Road West, officials working to determine cause of death

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was found dead in the middle of Moncrief Road West.

According to detectives, officers initially responded to the area to calls about a reported shooting at around 4:10 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a man in his 40s laying in the middle of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that the man was dressed in black and was likely hit by a car in the northbound lane. Police also found a single shell casing on the ground nearby.

The Medical Examiner was unable to determine the cause of death at this time. However, JSO said it has access to surveillance video from the neighboring businesses, so it will process the footage to determine what happened.
