ORLANDO, Fla. — A bill heading to the governor’s desk would have major implications for drivers across the state.
If signed, it would make Florida the 15th state to require you to “Move Over” for all vehicles on the roadside, not just first responders and tow truck drivers.

Over the years, Action News Jax sister station WFTV in Orlando has highlighted the dangers of drivers stopping on the highways.
Florida’s Move Over law requires drivers to move over a lane or slow down 20 miles under the speed limit when law enforcement, first responders, or tow truck drivers are stopped on the side of the road.

So, in comes House Bill 425 to strengthen the state’s move-over law requiring drivers to move over for all broken down vehicles, something AAA has been advocating for.
The bill passed unanimously in both chambers during Florida’s legislative session.

However, if signed into law the bill would do more than expand the move-over law.
District 2 state Rep. Alex Andrade co-sponsored this legislation and said a wide-ranging transportation bill like this is filed every year. This bill addresses autonomous vehicle standards, construction, research initiatives, and more.
If signed, the bill would take effect July 1.
