GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — The U.S. Attorney’s Office and FBI announced indictments on Wednesday in Operation Ghost Busted, “a major gang-related drug trafficking investigation.”

David Estes, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia, said 76 defendants were indicted on charges that included conspiracy to possess and intent to distribute.

Much of the activity was coordinated from inside Georgia Department of Corrections prisons to the outside, Estes said.

Thirty-five of the subjects of the indictment were already in custody, Estes said.

Jermaine Deans, FBI Atlanta Assistant Special Agent in Charge, said the coordination of the activity was done “with the help of one corrupt guard, Desiree Briley.”

Three overdose deaths resulted from the drug activity. Estes said some of the drugs that were distributed include fentanyl and heroin.

The gangs that were allegedly involved include Ghost Bust Gangsters, Aryan Brotherhood and the Gangster Disciples.

Jermaine Deans, FBI Atlanta Assistant Special Agent in Charge, said one of the suspects, Eric Thompson, led officers on a chase Wednesday morning.

Deans said when they caught up with Thompson, he was carrying 122 grams of fentanyl. Deans said according to the DEA, that’s enough fentanyl to potentially kill 167,000 people.
