CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. — The Camden County Sheriff’s Office has released video from the deputy-involved shooting where a man was killed on Monday on Interstate 95 during a traffic stop.

The man killed, 53-year-old Leonard Cure, was exonerated in 2020 after spending 16 years in a Florida prison for a wrongful conviction.

According to the GBI, Cure at first cooperated with the deputy but then assaulted Deputy Buck Aldridge when he learned he was about to be arrested.

Aldridge first tased Cure then shot and killed him.

Cure’s family said the video is horrific and they would not comment any further right now. Three videos posted on YouTube by CCSO show Cure being pulled over and when he was shot by the Aldridge.

The incident happened just before 7:30 a.m. Monday. The videos show Cure being pulled over and Aldridge immediately started yelling for him to get out of the truck. Cure gets out and said he wasn’t going to do anything.

Eventually, Cure puts his hands on the back of the truck, and then behind his back. Cure asked if there was a warrant for his arrest. Aldridge again tells him to put his hands behind his back or he will be tasered. He also tells Cure that he was being arrested for going over 100 mph and reckless driving.

Cure gets tasered and while Aldridge is asking him to put his hands behind his back, Cure starts swinging his arms and the two begin to fight.

Cure then appears to have one hand on either Aldridge’s throat or his mouth and the other on his back. Cure could be heard on the video saying, “Yeah b****” after trying to hit Cure with the baton in this position.

Afterward, Aldridge shoots Cure. Aldridge is currently on administrative leave from CCSO.

Cure served 16 years of a life sentence in prison until a conviction review by The Innocence Project in 2020 led to his exoneration in the case of a 2003 drug store robbery.
