Clay County SWAT situation connected to woman’s death in St. Johns County ends with man shooting himself

SWAT called to County Side Drive after a car drove into a house

Clay, FL. — UPDATE 7:25 p.m.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the man who drove his car into a home has killed himself inside the home on County Side Road.

Additionally, it has been confirmed that the woman was found dead in Fruit Cove Springs on Ivy Lakes Drive.

Sheriff Michelle Cook of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, received multiple calls regarding a possible robbery in progress.

Upon arrival they found a vehicle that had crashed through the house on County Side Drive.

The Sheriff’s Office believes that the person who crashed through the house is still in the house.

At this point officers have been trying to negotiate with the subject for hours to come outside.

It has been confirmed the subject in the house is not the homeowner.

There is no description of the subject at this point.

The nearby neighbors have been evacuated as officers try to negotiate.

After further investigation, Clay County Sheriff’s Office and St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office believe that this incident in Clay County is related to a welfare check that occurred earlier today in St. Johns County.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office released this statement, “Around 8:30am today, we received a call from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to do a welfare check on a female in the northwest part of our county. Based on the information received, we sent deputies to do the check and made entry into the home where we found a deceased female. We believe this to be a domestic violence incident and related to the active situation in Clay County. Our investigation is underway. We will release further details at the appropriate time.”
