JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax has learned JEA has received a federal grand jury subpoena.
JEA has become the subject of both federal investigations and a probe by a Jacksonville City Council committee for the failed attempt to sell the utility and a controversial bonus plan that would’ve paid executives millions in taxpayer dollars.
City Councilman Rory Diamond is the chair of the council committee.
“I was told by [Office of General Counsel] yesterday that JEA was served with a federal grand jury subpoena,” Diamond said.
JEA top brass is mentioned in the subpoena, including interim CEO Melissa Dykes.
The 12-page document shows federal investigators are asking for all records and documents pertaining to the invitation to negotiate, the performance unit plan, the selection of former CEO Aaron Zahn and the process of the IPO, among other documents.
One line of the document asks for all documents and records pertaining to the use of the app Confide by Zahn, any lobbyist and/or any member of Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry’s administration in connection with the ITN and LTI PUP.
Confide is a confidential messaging app. Curry addressed this Thursday.
“If my office is asked to do anything, obviously we’re going to comply,” Curry said.
JEA released the following statement:
“Yesterday, JEA received a federal grand jury subpoena for records from the U.S. Attorney’s office. We received authorization to release this information publicly at 5:29 p.m. today. JEA has been and will continue to be fully cooperative with all investigations and public records requests. A copy of the subpoena is attached for your reference.”
