Driver of truck without lights on dies in Orange Park crash; 4 others hurt, troopers say

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — One person is dead and another has critical injuries after a crash in Orange Park Wednesday.

The crash happened on Park Avenue near Stiles Avenue at  11:13 p.m. Tuesday.

All north and southbound lanes were shut down as the Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash. It has since reopened.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a Ram pickup truck was traveling without lights on, attempted to make a left turn onto Park Central Plaza, across southbound lanes, hitting the right side of a Chevy Cobalt being driven northbound on Park Avenue and proceeded in the left turn lane.

The pickup truck then struck a concrete light pole. The driver, who has not been identified at this time, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 41-year-old Middleburg woman, who was a passenger in the Cobalt has critical injuries, the traffic release.

The driver, a 52-year-old man has minor injuries, according to FHP.

Troopers say a 14-year-old girl and a 21-year-old man traveling inside the pickup truck had minor injuries. Both were from Columbia, South Carolina.
