JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville police are investigating an early Friday shooting at a Southside apartment building that left one man dead and another wounded.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened at the Bentley Green Apartments on Princeton Square Boulevard.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Officers said they believe the incident started in an apartment and spilled into the streets.

Before the crime scene tape went up and the K-9s went to work, neighbors like Danny Beatty were about to go sleep. It was almost 1 a.m and someone was in serious trouble.

“It sounded like a bunch of metal clanging and then the last three I definitely knew they were gunshots … three big booms,” Beatty said.

Beatty called 911.

“I just wonder if I know them,” said Debra Curry.

On Sunday afternoon, police identified the man who died in the shooting as 26-year-old Sergio M. Cox.

As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been made. It is not known for certain what led up to the shooting. The investigating is ongoing.
