Family and neighbors said a toddler who died after she was run over in a North Jacksonville driveway on Saturday brightened up the neighborhood.
Officers said 1-year-old Abbigayle Smith was running around the yard at a home on Sears Road when a work van ran over her around 11 a.m.
Officers said it appears the driver of the van did not realize he hit her.
The driver continued down the road until the toddler's mother called him and told him what happened, according to officers.
Abbigayle was taken to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Family members said it was a terrible accident and that the person driving the van was the boss of Abbigayle's father.
Police said he was there to pick up Abbigayle's father but he had already left for work.
Family and neighbors said Abbigayle brightened up the neighborhood.
She would have turned 2 years old in July.
“She just learned how to walk not long ago,” said neighbor Brooks Adams. “She was just starting to say names. Just a precious innocent child, just another angel now.”
Employees with the Department of Children and Families were at the home Saturday afternoon.
“She’s a good mother, and the father was at work when it happened,” said Adams. “I know it’s be hard for him to live without that daughter because he was a great dad.”
Family members have set up a GoFundMe page to pay for expenses related to Abbigayle's memorial.
