Florida has more of those dangerous cars on the road than nearly any other state.

Ranking third behind only Texas and California.

According to the report 237,000 vehicles are driving Florida roads with urgent recall carrying a ‘do not drive’ designation or a ‘park outside’ designation, which means the vehicle poses a fire risk and should not be parked in or around any structures.

“There’s about two and a half million nationwide,” Patrick Olsen, Editor in Chief at CARFAX said.

Olsen is trying to spread the word about outstanding recalls, noting the repairs come at no cost, and warning it could be life or death.

“All recalls are important. These are the most important and people should not ignore these because honestly, there have been perilous consequences,” Olsen said.

Olsen said part of the problem is that recall notices are generally sent via traditional mail to impacted owners.

“Unfortunately, that is not the way that most adults communicate in this day in age,” Olsen said.

The urgent recalls impact nearly every car brand, but notably the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations reports more than 3,100 Hyundai and Kia models under recall have caught fire across the country, causing more than 100 injuries and at least one death.

The administration also says 23 people have been killed and more than 400 injured by Takata airbags.

And those stats are of great concern to drivers like Rebecca Moore.

“You never know at any moment whether or not someone next to you driving is going to actually crash and burn or something,” Moore said.
