6-year-old killed in Gainesville crash that injured 9

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A 6-year-old died after a head-on crash in Gainesville injured eight other people Sunday, according to police.

A 2003 Kia Sorrento was traveling north on S.R. 26 near Gumroot Swamp when it veered over the centerline and into oncoming traffic.

The Kia struck a Toyota Corolla and Scion head on.

Five children were taken to the hospital and a 6-year-old died from injuries sustained during the accident.

The children's ages ranged from 4 months old to 8 years old. On Thursday, police announced the 4-month-old child died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

One adult and three children were seriously injured.

Traffic homicide detectives are investigating.
