JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The driving record of a man who troopers say was the aggressor in a road rage incident that led to his death in a crash shows he had past issues behind the wheel.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 60-year-old James David Robinson of Jacksonville died in the crash involving six vehicles last Thursday on Roosevelt Boulevard.

Action News Jax first told you Friday that authorities believe that road rage was a factor in the crash.

At least two of the cars were caught on cellphone video, which shows a white Honda Civic and a Chevrolet Suburban continue to collide into each other, like bumper cars.

At one point, Robinson, the driver of the Suburban, veered off the road into oncoming traffic. FHP said he collided with two more cars. The drivers and passengers in the other cars survived.

Robinson had an extensive criminal history, including past issues behind the wheel.

  • In 2004, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Robinson was arrested for stalking, driving on a suspended license and refusal to surrender his license.
  • In 2007, he was arrested for making threats, attaching license plate or validation sticker not assigned, driving with a suspended license and drug charges.
  • In 2008, officers arrested Robinson for sexual battery on a victim younger than 12. The warrant states that Robinson threatened to kill the victim if they told anyone.
  • In 2009, police say Robinson violated his probation, again driving on a suspended license with his license revoked.

FHP is asking anyone who has additional information or video footage of the incident to contact FHP investigators at (904) 359-6572 or *FHP (*347).
