The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said there have been 13 bear sightings in Clay County so far this year, compared with 22 all of last year. Bear activist say bears are being pushed out of their habitat for a number of reasons, including development.

"A developer comes in and says, 'I'm going to build all these beautiful homes,' but they don't educate these people who buy these homes about the possibility of wildlife," neighbor Fawn Avant said.

FWC says in Duval County, the number of bear sightings has increased from six in 2016 to 24 so far in 2017, although FWC can receive multiple reports on the same animal.
