JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Families in the Jacksonville area have the opportunity to taste the flavors of African-American, Caribbean and African cuisine during Black Restaurant Week.
The annual culinary movement teams up with Black-owned restaurants, chefs, caterers and food trucks as a way to introduce culinary businesses and professionals to the community and help stimulate the local economy.
According to research from University of California Santa Cruz, 41% of Black-owned businesses have shuttered since February compared to 17% of white-owned businesses.
Black Restaurant Week aims to “expand awareness and increase support for black culinary professionals,” according to the Jaxson.
Pepsi is this year’s national title sponsor, the first ever for Black Restaurant Week.
Local restaurants participating in Black Restaurant Week include: Funnel Cake Queen, Mr. Potato Spread, Crazy Seafood and the Gumbo Man.
It runs Friday Nov. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 6.
