Foolio murder suspect taken into custody after standoff at Westside apartment complex, JSO says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Overnight, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Service apprehended Rashad Murphy, 30, at an apartment complex in the Collins Road area. Murphy was wanted for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of Charles Jones, also known as Julio Foolio, in Tampa last month.

The arrest operation saw JSO CPR, Gang, and SWAT units surrounding the apartment. Nearby residents were evacuated for their safety. Negotiators, supported by patrol units and the UAS Unit, spent hours persuading Murphy to surrender. SWAT operators employed various tactics during the standoff, which ultimately led to Murphy’s peaceful surrender.

He is a Fugitive from Justice (Murder) out of Tampa.

Upon his extradition, Murphy will be the fourth individual arrested in connection with the Tampa murder case. The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives continue their search for Davion Murphy, another suspect in the case.

UPDATE 8:12 a.m.- JSO confirmed on X that the agency has arrested Rashad Murphy, who was wanted for his connection to the murder of local rapper Julio Foolio.

UPDATE: Tuesday, 7:40 a.m.- A source from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office informed Action News Jax that Rashad Murphy has been taken into custody. He was reportedly found by detectives in the apartment off Collins Rd.

Rashad Murphy is one of the suspects who has a warrant out for their arrest for the shooting death of Jacksonville rapper Charles Jones, also known as “Foolio.” Davion Murphy is still on the run.

UPDATE 12:45 a.m.- JSO has left the scene after a standoff with a suspect at a Westside. Witnesses and Action News Jax both saw a man being taken into custody at the scene. We have reached out to JSO for more information, but haven’t heard back yet.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is outside the Collins Preserve in Ortega on Jacksonville’s Westside.

Action News Jax Annette Gutierrez is at the scene where she described multiple police cruisers and fire rescue units.

A witness at the complex said they heard what they believe was Rashad Murphy’s name being called out on a police megaphone. He is a person the police are looking for in connection with Julio Foolio’s murder.

“If you do this, no harm will come to you,” police said. “I’m with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Come outside with your hands up, come outside with your hands up. We are not going to leave.”

No details have been confirmed by JSO at this point.
