JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax Brittney Donovan is talking with neighbors on Shindler Drive after a man was found dead inside an SUV.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a man between the ages of 35 and 45 was found dead inside a vehicle Sunday morning near Bellrose Avenue and Shindler Drive.
A JSO sergeant tells Action News Jax Brittney Donovan that a neighbor walked out of their home at 8:15 a.m. Sunday and found the man unresponsive inside an SUV in their yard. JFRD pronounced the man dead at the scene.
JSO believes the man was shot. The sergeant said it's unclear if he was shot at Bellrose and Shindler, or drove there after he was shot.
Neighbors told JSO they heard gunshots between 3 and 4 a.m. but they apparently did not notify the sheriff's office.
"This is scary," neighbor Karen Hawkins said. "We don't have driveby shootings."
Hawkins and other neighbors couldn't get into their driveways for seven hours during the investigation. The roadway reopened around 3:15 p.m.
The JSO sergeant said there was a party going on Saturday night down the street from where the SUV was found. Officers are working to talk with people who were at the party.
JSO said someone came to the hospital overnight with an apparent gunshot wound. That person did not say the location where they were shot. The Sheriff's Office is looking into whether the two shootings are related.
Several people who were in the area where the SUV was found were taken downtown for questioning, JSO said.
Action News Jax is working to learn the identity of the man killed.
