NASSAU, Fla. — Homeowners in Nassau County are raising concerns after a development project is set to add 75 single family homes to their neighborhood.

“It was a shock,” said neighbor Kathryn Clark. “I was just sitting in my house minding my own business, looked outside and saw them putting the sign in the ground.”

Clark has lived in the Buckhead neighborhood since 2020. She, among other neighbors, are raising concerns over the Buckhead Development Project.

As part of the county’s phase 3 plan, this will add 75 single-family homes and infrastructure north of Ford Road between Trophy Trail and Deer Run Trail.

“We don’t have the infrastructure here to support all that traffic,” said neighbor Jack Schoonmaker. “We have kids who are trying to play.”

Last December, the Nassau County planning and zoning board recommended the approval of the plan with a 8-0 vote.

Tonight, the board will consider phase 3 and 4 of the plan.

Clark says this is the final step before development.

All the neighbors Action News Jax spoke with tell me they want to see more than one entrance and exit to their neighborhood and safety is the biggest concern.

“God forbid somebody, some kid gets hurt,” said Schoonmaker “Or something happens, it’s going to be on their decision, they made that decision, and they are going to have to live with that.”

The county commission meeting is at 6 p.m. on Monday.
