JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said it's working to uncover the motive behind a triple shooting that left three people injured, including one who remains in critical condition.

JSO originally said the victims were in their “mid-to-late teens” but is now saying they’re between 22 and 25 years old.

No suspect information has yet been released.

“What we are having right now is individuals that are empowered because you put something like a firearm in their hand,” said Lt. Rickie Valentine.

You could almost feel the frustration from police Thursday as investigators worked tirelessly through several different crimes scenes.

“I was deeply saddened,” said Councilwoman Joyce Morgan.

Morgan, who represents Arlington, said she’s already reached out to JSO, the school board, and community partners about the incident.

“To just get their take on what's going on and how we can assist right now,” said Morgan.

January was a violent month in Jacksonville; many of the shootings involved teenagers. According to Action News Jax’s reporting, there were at least six shootings involving teens.

A witness to Thursday’s triple shooting in Arlington said she believes high school students were involved, but JSO has not confirmed that.

Regardless, Morgan said the community needs to step up.

“You have to talk so if there is no open line of communication, nothing is going to be done anyway,” said Morgan.

Morgan said the youth needs more mentorship and overall guidance from someone they can trust.

“There really are a lot of programs out here. There really are. So I’m not going to say that there aren't programs, but there still needs to be more,” said Morgan.

There will be a prayer walk Saturday, Feb. 4 at 9 a.m. in response to the recent violence. Those who would like to join are asked to meet at Impact Church on Lone Star Road.
