The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it received a call about a domestic disturbance at a home. The woman who called for help described that the man as violent, saying he was in a fit of rage.

The woman was able to leave the house, but a child left inside with the man.

As deputies arrived and made contact with the man, they saw he had a gun and pointed it in the direction of three deputies. They opened fire, killing the suspect.

“I thought it was in my yard, sounded like it was right in the back of my shed. I was scared to go back there and look," said Yvonne Hamlow, a neighbor. “I heard the bang bang bang bang, gunshots and it sounded like it was right there where my lawn mower sits.”

“I was woken up by rapid fire, bang bang bang bang bang, just rapid fire. A lot of panicking, not sure what’s going on. There’s police going in several different directions. I don’t know if I need to take fire because the gunfire was really close," said Natalie Bogacki, another neighbor. “We’ve been here for a couple of years so we’re think it might be time to look for another location possibly because this is not the first time I’ve heard gunshots in this area.”

It’s not believed the suspected fired any shots, according to Clay County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Chris Padgett.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was requested to be the lead investigative agency into the shooting.
