Deegan released the following statement on the stadium deal:

“We have reached an agreement on the framework of a deal. The negotiating team is currently putting the final details on paper, and we will release that information as soon as it is available.”

Action News Jax’s Ben Becker told you in September when negotiations first began. The Jaguars have asked the City to contribute more than $1 billion for the renovation of the stadium and construction of a new entertainment district.

Based on Jaguars’ proposed timeline, early construction would begin in February 2025.

The new facility would be ready to be opened in August of 2028.

City Council President Ron Salem issued the following statement on the “framework of a deal:”

“I look forward to the presentation at our City Council meeting on Tuesday from the Jaguars and the administration. The Council expects to receive a complete agreement soon thereafter. My colleagues and I will begin a process to vet and finalize a stadium and lease agreement that is fair for the citizens of Jacksonville and will secure the Jaguars as our team for decades to come.”

The Jaguars released this statement about the next steps toward its “Stadium of the Future:”

“The Jaguars are pleased with the process and progress on a stadium agreement with the City of Jacksonville. While we are optimistic that we will soon finalize a deal that equally serves the team, community and all who will use the stadium, there is still work to do. The Jaguars and Mayor Donna Deegan have the same goal – a stadium agreement that will earn the approval of the City Council, the National Football League office and, ultimately, NFL owners. In that spirit, we continue to meet and look forward to joining Mayor Deegan and lead negotiator Mike Weinstein on Tuesday to jointly present to the Jacksonville City Council the structure of the stadium agreement between the Jaguars and City of Jacksonville.”
