On Saturday, Clay County celebrated the service and sacrifice of local veterans.
County leaders say Veterans Appreciation Day is an opportunity to connect former military members with available services.
Clay County Commission Chairman Gavin Rollins explains, “A lot of times we hear veterans that have needs and concerns, but they don’t always know the resources that are out there.”
Air Force veteran Bob Brewster says resources is one of many problems that have been plaguing veterans for decades.
Brewster tells Action News Jax, “Nothing here in the United States served them. We weren’t prepared for people to come back without arms and legs, mental health shell shock, and battle fatigue.”

He says veterans need to be treated with respect everyday of the year.
“People take the military for granted. They look down on the military in a lot of ways,” describes Brewster.
