CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Local leaders in Clay County are launching a new public safety initiative
Signal 35 Fund, the not-for-profit organization, created by local leaders and private community sponsors is ensuring that emergencies faced by clay county’s first responders are addressed quickly.
“The idea is if you are hurt and you need somebody before workers comp kicks in we can help,” said Chairman of Signal 35 Fund, Judson Sapp.
Jim Horne’s son-in-law, a JSO officer, was hurt in the line of duty. He says this was one of the reasons the initiative was created.
“He was chasing a felon on 100 third street when he was hit by an SUV going about 50 miles an hour, he was hurt very seriously,” said Horne.
With Signal 35 Fund, the money raised will be ready to help those who need assistance in any sudden emergency.
Clay County Sheriff Michelle cook says the need is real.
“Each year between 140 and 160 officers die in the line of duty in the United States,” said Cook.
Judson said he hopes the community will come together and back the blue.
“We back the blue is commonly thrown around, but we mean it here in clay county, we don’t just say it we back all of our first responders with action,” said Sapp.
Signal 35 Fund hopes to raise 50,000 dollars in its first year and you can donate to this organization HERE.
