LAKE ASBURY, Fla. — Family and friends gathered in Lake Asbury at the Ronnie Van Zant Memorial Park to honor the life of Eli Warren.
"I know that this is the kind of thing that he would have loved," Charles Warren said.
Charles told me his son would be happy knowing that children in Clay County have a new obstacle course to play on.
His mother told me as a parent, it’s important that her child is never forgotten.
“For his name to be said by kids and wonder about him and talk about him, that’s huge for us,” Releia Warren told Action News Jax.
Action News Jax first reported in January when Eli died in a crash on I-10 in Duval County.
A tractor trailer drove over the grass median and struck Eli’s mother’s van.
Florida Highway Patrol confirmed to Action News Jax that the driver of the tractor trailer was on his phone.
A family that wanted to remain anonymous donated the funds to build the obstacle course for kids.
Eli’s sister Evie told me she’s thankful the memory of her brother will live on in a pretty unique way.
“It’s a crazy thought to think that one day I’m going to bring my kids here and say this is your uncle’s park,” she said.
