Here is the first full message that was sent from Boyack to parents:

“Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians,

“This is Principal Boyack of Oakleaf High School. I am calling to notify you that our campus is on a code red lockdown out of an abundance of caution as the administration team was made aware that one of our students has allegedly seen another student with a firearm on campus. Again, we are on a code red lockdown out of an abundance of caution. I can share that the person accused is detained and the administration and the school resource officer are investigating. This will potentially affect dismissal as the investigation is ongoing. As of this moment there is no threat to students or staff. I will continue to share updates as more information is made available. Please know, we take every step in keeping all students and staff safe and we encourage you... if you see something, say something. Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.”

“Parents and Guardians,

“This is Principal Boyack of Oakleaf High School calling with an update to the code red lockdown. The lockdown has been lifted and we are dismissing students and please know that buses will be running late. Through the investigation, the Clay County District Schools Police Department has students of interest in custody as a firearm has been discovered on campus today. We always encourage our Knights that if they see something, then say something, and today is an example of how our students worked together in doing just that. I want to commend our students, staff, and faculty for following our safety procedures and protocols today. We will continue to actively work with our students, staff, and families to ensure school remains a safe and secure learning environment. Thank you for working together with us to create the best experiences for everyone. As always, we encourage you --- if you see something, say something. Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.”

Clay County District Schools Police Chief Kenneth Wagner said that there would be “additional resources” at Oakleaf High School on Thursday. Here is his full statement on the lockdown:

“The Clay County District Schools Police Department is still actively investigating the incident that took place at Oakleaf High School today. At 12:33 p.m. the school was placed on a code red lockdown out of an abundance of caution as students shared with the administration that another student was believed to have a gun on campus. The administration and school resource officer immediately acted and began an investigation. Through the investigation, it was determined that multiple students were involved with bringing a single firearm to campus today. We will continue to have zero tolerance for this behavior and charges are pending.

“Safety and security of our campuses is my number one priority and I am proud of our students who reported this to our administration. We encourage our students to always reach out to administration and their school resource officer if they see or hear of any threats, weapons, or suspicious behavior regarding school operations. Tomorrow, we will have additional resources at Oakleaf High School. I encourage our students, staff, parents, and community members to report any threats or tips through Fortify Florida app or SaferWatch.”
