LAKE CITY, Fla. — A Columbia County mother was the first to claim a $1 million top prize from one of the Florida Lottery’s newest scratch-off games.

Terinda Harper-Dixon, 53, of Lake City, chose to take home her winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $795,000.

Florida Lottery officials said she surprised her son with the news. He didn’t believe her at first.

“I walked into his room and told him his parents were millionaires - needless to say he just brushed it off as a joke. It wasn’t until I pulled out the winning ticket that he stopped what he was doing and got excited with us,” she said. “Telling my son was the best part.”

She bough the winning $20 new GOLD RUSH LIMITED scratch-off at Stop N Go located on Northwest Lake Jeffery Road in Lake City.

The new game was launched last month and features multiple chances to win up to $5 million.

Here’s a look at what that scratch-off looks like.

Action News Jax reported earlier this week when a Jacksonville woman claimed the $1 million prize from THE FASTEST ROAD TO $1,000,000 Scratch-Off game.

She purchased her ticket at a Speedway on Merrill Road.
