A company co-owned by a Jacksonville City Councilwoman is being ordered to repay hundreds of thousands in taxpayer dollars.
Action News Jax has learned that company is owned by Councilwoman Katrina Brown and her mother and they have 15 days to repay more than $210,000 in city grant money, given to their company as part of an agreement.
In a letter sent to Brown's mother Joann, the office of economic development says KJB Specialties Inc., has defaulted on the deal it made.
It says KJB failed on its obligation to create 56 new jobs. It also failed to submit annual reports tracking job retention and tracking.
The city of Jacksonville now wants the $210,549 dollars in grant money paid back by July 9 or it may file a lawsuit against the company.
We caught up with Councilwoman Brown on Wednesday. This agreement was made before Katrina brown was elected to office.
As news of her company's default on taxpayer grant money came to light, the city on Wednesday announced new committee assignments for council members.
Katrina brown will serve on the finance committee starting Friday.
