JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A mega-box store that is one step closer to being built on Jacksonville’s Westside is causing mixed emotions among residents.
Costco is considering opening a second Jacksonville location at Collins Road and Interstate 295.
Councilman Jim Love said he got a call within the last week that something related to the new store had been filed with the planning department.
Action News Jax learned that it has to do with the construction aspect of developmental projects.
"They wouldn't be filing these papers unless they're pretty serious with putting the Costco in,” Love said.
Even though the store could add about 250 jobs, not everyone in the area thinks adding the store would be a plus.
"I think it's dumb,” said neighbor Steven Brown. “We have enough traffic already. It's just too much already. It takes 45 minutes just to get home through that area.”
Kimberly King said she would shop at Costco if it came, but would rather not have it near her home.
"It would be convenient, I suppose, (but) I think the badness of traffic completely overrules the convenience," said King.
Love said that if Costco builds in the area, the plan is to expand Collins Road.
Action News Jax contacted Costco's corporate office about the possible store location. A statement was sent saying:
