JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It’s a crash-avoidance technology that is going to be working to save lives right here in Jacksonville.
It’s called HALO and it will be added to an existing red light camera location off Atlantic and Southside Boulevard.
The technology helps to reduce the number of crashes.
We’re told it’s able to pick up time and speed of a vehicle approaching an intersection, and will determine if the vehicle will be able to stop in time.
HALO can then actually delay the green light for cross traffic until the vehicle passes.
Local driver Carlos Rivera says he’s seen the aftermath of some serious crashes in intersections, and says this is needed.
“I agree with it and everything prevents more crashes and stuff like that it’s safe for the streets,” said Rivera.
He thinks this technology will be a positive change for the city.
Action News Jax reached out to JSO to see how much the technology costs. I was told the cost is included in the contract that they have with Redflex, the company that runs the red-light cameras in Jacksonville.
