Earlier this month, Action News Jax showed you the District’s proposed $1.8 billion Facilities Master Plan, which includes the consolidations of more than a dozen schools.

TRENDING:

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Board heard about 20 proposals for consolidations. The plan would combined multiple schools to one new or renovated building, while still keeping the schools separate. For example, Raines Middle and High School would consolidate to one facility. However, students would be in separate classrooms, under different principals.

The Board opened the conversation to the public and asked for feedback. The said they received more than 1,600 survey responses on maintenance challenges associated with the buildings.

“It’s old, they could use some new renovations and some new changes in there,” Parent Tamara Muse told Action News Jax. “It looks the same as when I went there.”

The scenarios that remain under discussion include:

  • J. Allen Axson/Chets Creek elementary schools
  • Venetia/Ortega elementary schools
  • Ribault High School/Ribault Middle School
  • Raines High School/Northwestern Middle School
  • Jefferson Davis Middle School

A statement from the District continued to state, “The district will continue the conversation on these scenarios in different ways. In some of these instances, Dr. Greene will hold more dialog in the school community to better understand concerns. In others, the district will conduct additional surveys to evaluate potential alternatives.”
