Deadly crash in Palatka as road closures lasted several hours, FHP report said

PALATKA, Fla. — A deadly crash involving an SUV and a pickup truck in Putnam County closed Crill Avenue near Highlawn Drive in Palatka for several hours.

The Florida Highway Patrol said an 89-year-old man from Palatka died in the collision.

In a report obtained by Action News Jax, the SUV was traveling west on State Road 20 when it moved into the left turn lane to turn south onto Highlawn Avenue.

The pickup truck was traveling in the opposite direction when it crossed into the path of the SUV, striking the front passenger side of the vehicle.

The driver of the pickup, a 30-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. There was a three-year-old and a seven-year-old in the truck but they were not injured in the crash.

FHP said that the driver and passenger in the SUV were not wearing their seat belts.
