Florida Sens. Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio testified in Washington on behalf of residents of Jacksonville’s Eureka Gardens Apartments.
The owner of the public housing complex has been under intense scrutiny about the condition of the complex and its slow reaction to both state and federal complaints.
Action News Jax has learned an Ohio-based company now wants to buy the property.
Brittney Carter is excited about the future of her home. Carter has called Eureka Gardens home for almost five years now and has dealt with mold, poor air quality and crime.
“It’s like, you would go to the old management and you would express your feelings and nothing would get done,” said Carter.
The old management, Global Ministries Foundation, has been blasted nationally for its slow action and poor service. Thursday, the company faced that backlash in Washington D.C., as Nelson and Rubio testified on behalf of the troubled complex.
“We have a very focused mayor and a very focused city council person and Senator Rubio and they have responded to the voices of the residents,” said Pastor Mark Griffin with Wayman Ministries.
Griffin has been helping Eureka Gardens for years. He said he's glad things are turning around.
"We're excited about what's happening, we know there's still a lot of work, but we're on the right track," said Griffin.
It’s a path Carter said points in the right direction.
“I’m ecstatic, because there’s going to be a dramatic change,” said Carter.
