Deputies rescue injured sea turtle from St. Johns County beach

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office rescued an injured sea turtle that was floating in the water on Tuesday night.

Deputies received a call about the injured loggerhead floating in the water near Riverview Club.

They took it out of the water and called a marine biologist. The turtle is now in the biologist's care.

Loggerheads spend most of their lives in the open ocean and in shallow coastal waters.

They are considered an endangered species and are protected by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, according to SJSO.
