Jacksonville, FL. — Duval County Public Schools announced Sunday that Douglas Anderson would move to Duval HomeRoom Monday through at least Wednesday because of “multiple cases of COVID-19”.
This is the second high school in a week to make the shift.
Fletcher High School is also learning online.
In a statement, the district said in part, “this is precautionary while we wait for the Department of Health to complete contact tracing...these cases appear to be linked to activities outside of school.”
Douglas Anderson will be online through at least Wednesday for a deep clean and the district will review whether they need to extend.
All after school activities, rehearsals, and events are also canceled until further notice.
The DCPS COVID-19 dashboard currently only reports five total cases, however Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene said earlier this week that the system lags and cases are only published after contact tracing is complete and the case is closed.
They are now considering posting cases immediately after they are confirmed.
32 total cases forced Fletcher High School to transition online.
Action News Jax asked DCPS how many current cases are impacting Douglas Anderson, but have not yet heard back.
The district said at least 20% of the student body must be impacted for the school to close.
Parents received a phone call from the school’s principal last week stating they were aware of multiple cases.
In an email sent home Sunday, the principal told families that the Department of Health would contact them if they needed to quarantine.
The school is hosting a drive-through technology distribution Monday for families who need a computer for Duval HomeRoom.
There will also be no academic penalty if a student misses classes Monday due to a lack of technology.
