JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is working to learn what led up to a shooting that left three people dead overnight in Washington Heights.
The JSO gang unit was conducting a deployment at the Calloway Cove apartments on Moncrief Road when they heard gunfire in the area.
Authorities said they then saw a vehicle leaving the area and officers immediately tried to pull the vehicle over.
The vehicle led police on a chase over several miles before it was ended by a PIT maneuver. Inside the vehicle, that police said was stolen out of Clay County, officers “captured” multiple people and recovered several firearms.

An investigation led the gang unit to canvass the complex. Inside an apartment, police said they found two men and one woman dead.
Their names have not been released at this time.
Action News Jax’s Alicia Tarancon took a look at the recent crime reported in the area.
In the last four weeks, there has been about 20 incidents within a half mile radius. Those cases were mostly for assault and vandalism, according to JSO’s crime map.
