JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Five Points area of Riverside was a scene of chaos over the weekend, causing the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to dispatch dozens of officers, including mounted-horse units.

The area has become a thriving, diverse area for the local economy and it’s normally a calm area given the amount of foot traffic it receives.

But this area of Park Street was ground-zero for an aggressive after-hours encounter between club-goers and JSO.

Exclusive video obtained by Action News Jax shows groups of JSO officers on foot securing the area, bikes locking down Park Street, and JSO’s mounted unit responding.

As some people scrambled to escape the area, others hung around as what looks like tear gas and pepper spray were used to clear the streets. In one part of the video, there is a person on the ground being punched repeatedly by an officer.

Action News Jax has received the calls for service from JSO on Saturday. The report shows five calls from the Five Points area; three of those calls were because of alleged assault.

We have spoken with Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters about this weekend’s events and will have his reaction on Action News Jax at 6.
