JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some veteran teachers in Northeast Florida are not happy about Governor Ron DeSantis’ new teacher pay bill.
DeSantis said the bill will add $500 million to fund teacher pay to the minimum earners in public and charter schools. One hundred million dollars will be allocated to the more experienced teachers making more than the minimum salary.
$400 million will go towards raising the base pay for teachers to at least $47,500.
Some veteran teachers argue that it has taken them 10+ years to get that kind of salary.
