JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Downtown Development Review Board approved plans for a new VyStar Credit Union parking garage with retail space in Downtown Jacksonville.

It would be built on the corner of Laura and Forsyth Street.

Lori Boyer, CEO of the Downtown Investment Authority, said retail space would occupy the ground level.

The garage would be seven stories with close to 800 spaces, and 13,000 square feet of retail space.

Renderings show a coffee shop, pharmacy and bakery as potential business examples that would occupy the retail space.

Regions and VyStar Credit Union employees would use the garage, customers and residents of the Laura Street Trio and Barnett Bank Building will have access to about 100 spots.

“This is an area where we have a parking shortage, a density of people working in office buildings and also some of the new residents that have come online” Boyer said.

The DIA said the next step is a closing. Once construction begins it could take up to 18 months to complete.
