Former Notre Dame football player shot at Jacksonville gas station

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A former Notre Dame football player was shot at a Gate gas station on Airport Center Drive Tuesday night.

According to a new report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Louis Nix III was at the Gate gas station when an unknown person came up to him and shot him.

In the report, police say Nix told them that someone shot him and then fled behind the car wash.

Police and K9s responded to the scene looking for the suspect. It is unclear if the suspect was found.

A witness told police that they heard a popping noise and saw two to three people at the air pump. They say they saw a man point a gun at Nix and flee behind the car wash, according to the report.

Nix went on Instagram live from the abundance after the shooting. In the video, he says he was putting air in his tires when he shot. He also told his 14,000 followers, “I love yall if I don’t make it.”

In the Instagram live you can see Nix with bandages over his chest.

Nix tweeted that was shot near his sternum and is expected to have surgery soon.

Nix is a Jacksonville native who attended Raines High School and played football there.

He played for the Notre Dame football team from 2011 until 2013. He was also signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad in 2016; he was released by the Jags in 2017.

During his time in the NFL, he also played for the Houston Texans, New York Giants and the Washington Football Team.
